COURSE DESCRIPTION

 In this course, we will study women of the Bible from the Old and New Testaments, and examine and discuss the impact these women have had on history. We will also discuss the similarities between woman of the Bible and women of today.

 PREREQUISITES

 None

TEXT

The Holy Bible in any translation.

Women of the Bible – Ann Spangler   $12.95 (not required)

COURSE OUTCOMES/COMPETENCIES (as Required) 

  1. Assist students in examining the lives of the women of the Bible.
  2. Discuss the lives of the women in the Bible and become more aware of the choices that they made in their environment and culture and how we may make similar choices because of our environment and culture.
  3. Observe and define common themes and life issues among the women.
  4. Discuss how the choices the women made may have influenced future events and how the women of the Bible might influence our lives today and the choices that we make.

 COURSE OUTLINE

1.     Study the women in the Old Testament and the historical context surrounding each of the women.

2.     Study the women in the New Testament and the historical context surrounding each of the women.

3.     Compare and discuss the various choices the women in the Bible made.

4.     Observe common themes among the women.

5.     Discuss how the lives of each woman have had a possible influence and impact upon the history of both the western (Europe) and eastern (Middle East) civilizations of the world.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

Lectures, assigned readings, class discussions, guest speakers, Internet and videos.
